Twitter announced an intention to start penalizing abusive account to eradicate hateful content on its platform. The company reviewed the new guidelines when updating its rules that clarifying its policies on graphic violence self-harm and spam covering abusive behavour, hateful conduct and content relating to spam.
Facing the criticism over the years for its poor handling of “abuse”, the media reported that aiming to penalizing accounts is to remove content that include “hateful imagery and display names” or those who use username, or display profile bio to engage in abusive behaviour. The changes are part of revamp to Twitter’s policies surrounding online abuse.
According to a report in ReCode, for Twitter that two new restriction are attempt to combat rampant harassment and abusive on the site. The biggest updates on the platform include abusive behaviour, self-harm, spam and related behaviours, graphic violence and adult content. Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey has also announced plan to act more aggressively on this violence and sexual abuse.
Twitter’s head of safety policy also emailed to member of its Trust and Safety Council on new rules to promote free speech and, curb violence and sexual harassment. The emailed which, later also revealed the need to show a serious approach to upcoming changes and to quickly to update the policies and enforce on them.
On this account, it was revealed that immediately and permanently suspending of any account we help in identify the original poster/source of non-consensual nudity and, or if the user makes it clear they are intentionally posting said content to harass their target, the email read. “If the account appears to be dedicated to posting non-consensual nudity then we will suspend the entire account immediately, it added.
Therefore hence forth for twitter network users, any contents or posts contain of any hateful imagery, hate symbols, nudity post or content that tent to harass other users, or related behavours will now be considered as sensitive media which is also similar to how twitter handle and enforce adult content and graphic violence.
More so, Twitter said that an enforcement action will be taking against on violent group or organization that use or have historically used such violence as a means of their communication to advance their objective
